Where to Rent Out Stuff in Singapore

Remember MyRent.sg? That cool Singapore app where you could rent almost anything from your neighbours — like cameras, drones, gimbals, sports gear, or even a Nintendo Switch for a few dollars a day?

A lot of people loved the idea: Why buy expensive stuff if you only use it once or twice? Just rent it cheap from someone nearby. It felt like Airbnb, but for things instead of rooms.

So… what happened to MyRent?

MyRent launched in Singapore around 2018–2019 with a lot of excitement. They had thousands of users and hundreds of listings pretty quickly. The team even increased their protection guarantee so lenders felt safer if something got damaged or stolen.

But somewhere along the way, things went quiet. The website no longer works like before, the app disappeared, and business trackers now list the company as deadpooled (a polite way of saying it shut down). There was no big dramatic announcement — it just slowly faded away.

This happens to many startups. Singapore is a small market, building trust between strangers isn’t easy, and keeping enough people lending and renting at the same time is tough. Whatever the exact reason, MyRent is no longer around.

Good news: You can still rent stuff easily!

Here are the best alternatives right now in Singapore:

1. Carousell (the easiest and most popular)

  • Many people now just post “for rent” on Carousell.
  • You can find cameras, drones, gaming consoles, sports equipment, and more.
  • Tip: Search for the item + “rent” or message sellers directly and ask if they’re open to renting.

2. Specialised rental shops for cameras & drones

  • JustRentLah — Clean website with live prices for cameras, lenses, gimbals, and DJI drones.
  • Renticulous — Trusted since 2019, lots of photography and video gear.
  • These are proper businesses, so you get good condition equipment and proper support.

3. Other fun rental options

  • Rentagame.sg — Perfect if you want to try gaming consoles or games without buying.
  • Playforce or HomeGym — For tech gadgets, projectors, or even home gym equipment.
  • The Camp Company — Great for camping and outdoor gear.
  • Community centres and ActiveSG gyms sometimes lend basic sports equipment (like badminton rackets or basketballs) for free or very cheap.

4. Facebook Groups & Marketplace

  • Search for “Singapore Rent [item name]” groups. There are quite a few active ones for cameras, drones, and baby gear.

For people who rent things out (Lenders & Owners)

If you’re someone with idle stuff at home (a nice camera, drone, gaming console, sports gear, projector, etc.), you can still earn extra money by renting it out! Here’s how people are doing it successfully:

1. Carousell – The simplest way

  • Create a listing with clear photos and write “For Rent” in the title.
  • Set your daily/weekly price, add your rules (deposit, collection method, etc.).
  • Many owners earn a few hundred dollars a month this way.
  • Tip: Be honest about the condition, meet in public for the first handover, and ask for a small deposit or use Carousell’s payment protection if available.

2. Facebook Marketplace and Groups

  • Post in local buy/sell/rent groups or “Singapore Rent [Your Item]” communities.
  • It’s free and reaches a lot of people quickly.
  • Many lenders prefer this because they can chat directly and build trust.

3. Specialised rental shops (if you don’t want to handle everything yourself)

  • Some shops like JustRentLah or Renticulous sometimes work with owners or accept consignment-style arrangements. It’s worth messaging them to ask.
  • You hand over your item, they handle the renting, cleaning, and customer service — you just collect a share of the rental fee.

4. Other tips for safe and successful renting out

  • Take good photos and describe the item clearly (model, condition, accessories included).
  • Always meet in a safe, public place for handover and return.
  • Use a simple rental agreement (you can find free templates online) to protect yourself.
  • Start small — rent to friends or neighbours first to build confidence.
  • Popular items that earn well: Cameras, drones, gimbals, Switch/PS5 consoles, camping tents, and baby equipment.

Renting out your stuff not only brings in side income but also helps the environment by reducing waste and letting others enjoy things without buying new.

Why renting still makes sense in Singapore

  • Save money as a renter (no need to spend thousands on something you use only a few times).
  • Earn extra cash as a lender.
  • Try before you buy.
  • Less clutter at home and more sustainable.

It’s a pity MyRent didn’t make it — the idea was really good. But Singaporeans are practical, and we’ve found other ways to share and rent things. The sharing economy isn’t dead; it just moved to places like Carousell and specialised shops.

Have you used MyRent before? Are you a renter or a lender? What’s your favourite way to rent or rent out gear now? Drop a comment and let me know — maybe we can build a better list together!

P.S. If you’re looking for room or house rental instead (not gear), the big platforms are still 99.co, PropertyGuru, and Carousell.

I’m going to try My Rent… https://myrent.sg/

Signed up today, 22nd November 2021 with my Avi Gmail.

Ishwar Dhanuka, co-founder of MyRent, welcomed me with an email…

Of course, I know the email is automated, but at least I know every rental on the platform is insured for up to S$1,000… https://myrent.sg/lender-protection-guarantee

Let me try renting out some stuff and come back with a review.
