Speed Up iPhone 4 YouTube Video Upload Time

Did you know the iPhone 4 built-in video camera app can only shoot High Definition?

If you are shooting videos for YouTube, and you have a slow internet connection, it may take a long time to upload due to huge file size.

Though I always recommend high definition to make your video look more professional, there are times when you just want to get the message across quickly.

There are 2 ways to shoot and upload iphone videos to YouTube quickly.

1. Use the iPhone YouTube uploader

Iphone 4 YouTube uploader? There is no such app, but you can find this feature in Photos app.

Your video is stored in the Camera Roll folder after recording. Access your video with the Photos app.

Below the video is the export icon. Touch the export icon and you will see the Send to YouTube button. That will take you to the YouTube uploader.

In the YouTube uploader, you can enter title, description and tags. Further down you can select to upload your video in HD or Standard Definition.

30 seconds of HD video takes about 10 Megabytes while the same video if converted to standard definition is about only 3 Megabytes.

Select standard definition in YouTube uploader and it will convert your HD video clip to a smaller file size.

Of course smaller file size means faster uploading and also means lower resolution picture quality which is slightly below DVD quality.

2. Install third party video camera apps

Why waste time waiting for YouTube uploader to convert your HD video? Why not speed it up by shooting in standard definition instead?

Most video camera apps in the App Store shoot in standard definition. They were created before the iPhone 4 existed. Install any of them and you can start shooting in standard definition with your iPhone 4.

One of my favorite video camera app used to be free. Or maybe I accidentally bought it. It’s called TapVideo. Costs 99 cents now.

With TapVideo, you can choose to shoot in HD or SD. You can also snap photos while recording videos. There are also features like focus, exposure, zoom and light controls.

For a touch of fun, you can try Miniatures, where you can make cars and buildings look like toys. Play around with time lapse effect to make things move faster.

I digress. We can go on to talk about iPhone video editing apps which can also help to convert videos, but that’s not the point of this article.

What we want to achieve here is to use the fastest way to shoot a videos with the iPhone 4 and upload to YouTube in the quickest possible time using the slowest 3G connection.
