On August 2016, Cannon announced the release of Canon 5D Mark IV.
- Canon 5D Mark IV – Video Specs review and [[my opinions]]
- S$5199 (body only – as at October 2016)
- 30.4-megapixel full frame sensor
- 60g lighter than Canon 5D Mark III [[60g isn’t much of a weight change!!??]]
- Shoots 4K video… internally [[this should have been there a long long long time ago]]
- 4096×2160
- 4:2:2:2 8 bit quality
- In-camera realtime downconvert from 4K to full HD
- HDR effect at 1080p30
- Touchscreen functionality [[a must-have feature in this touch-screen mobile device era]]
- SD memory card slots AND CompactFlash [[this is great! SD cards can be found everywhere and cheaper]]
- Includes headphone and mic jacks with full audio control
- The cons
- 4K cropped at 1.74x, while HD is full frame
- MJPEG compression type, [[this old video compression is going to eat up a lot of memory]]
- Recording of long video is split into 4GB files
- Rolling shutter [[oh come on, what the…]]
- Slow motion at 120fps only available in 720p [[this is shameful, iPhone 6S and iPone 7 and do better]]
- 30-minute cut off! Maximum recording time is 29:58 minutes
- No tilting or articulating screen [[hence it’s definitely NOT designed for the Videographer]]
- No C-LOG
- Accessories and Kit
- Tokina 11-16mm crop lens to counter the 4K crop factor without vignetting
- Competition
- Sony A7s II [[still my preferred choice for DSLR video]]
- Canon’s own EOS C series [[that’s why they intentionally made shooting video on 5D difficult]]
- Panasonic GH4
- Other notes:
- Sensor size is 6720×4480 pixels, but 4K video uses only 4096×2160 pixels, hence the crop factor.
- The Canon 5D Mark IV is made for Professional Photographers who want to shoot video and not for professional Videographers.
- As I read comments in articles, people are still comparing with 35mm film and the sorts [[WAKE UP! This is the touch-screen era!]]
- The first 5D was launched in 2005, followed by 5D Mark II – the first DSLR to feature Full HD video recording… that changed the game of videography.
- Then came Mark III in 2013 and Mark 4 in 2016.

- People are hoping the next Magic Lantern can help
- [[That being said, you can still shoot great looking videos with this camera]]
