An automatic fish feeder is a device that dispenses food to your fish at a predetermined time and frequency. It can hold enough food for several days or even weeks, depending on the model and the size of your fish tank. It can feed different types of food, such as flakes, pellets, or granules.
In this blog post, I will show you how I unbox, test, and set up the automatic fish feeder that I bought to feed my guppies while I go on a trip to Seoul for 5 days. You will see how easy it is to use this device and how it can keep your fish happy and healthy while you are away.
If you are looking for a reliable and affordable automatic fish feeder for your aquarium, you don’t want to miss this post!
Unboxing the Automatic Fish Feeder
The automatic fish feeder that I bought is the AF-2003 from Qoo10 and it cost me S$13.90. It came in a nice package with a user manual. The device itself is made of durable plastic and has a transparent container that can hold up to 40g of food. It doesn’t have a digital LCD screen that shows the time, the feeding settings, and the battery level.
The device runs on two AA batteries that are not included in the package. You will need to install them before using the device. To do that, you need to open the battery compartment at the bottom of the device and insert the batteries according to the polarity. There is no need to press any power button to turn on the device.
Testing the Automatic Fish Feeder
Before setting up the automatic fish feeder on your tank, you need to test it first to make sure it works properly and dispenses the right amount of food. To do that, you need to fill the container with some food and place it on a flat surface. Then, you need to set the time and the feeding frequency using the buttons on the device.
The device allows you to set up one or two feeding times per day and adjust the amount of food per feeding by rotating the container. You can also choose between manual or automatic mode. In manual mode, you can press the manual button to dispense food anytime you want. In automatic mode, the device will dispense food according to your settings… 12h or 24h.
To test the device, I set it to manual mode and pressed the manual button. The device made a sound and released some food from the opening at the bottom of the container. I checked the amount of food and it seemed reasonable for my guppies. I repeated this process a few times until I was satisfied with the results.
Setting Up the Automatic Fish Feeder
After testing the device, I was ready to set it up on my tank. To do that, I needed to attach it to the edge of my tank using the clamp that came with it. The clamp can fit most types of tanks and has a rubber pad that prevents scratching or slipping.
I placed the device on the edge of my tank and adjusted the clamp until it was secure. I made sure there was enough space between the opening and the water surface so that the food would not get wet or clog.
Next, I set the time and the feeding frequency using the buttons on the device. I decided to feed my guppies twice a day: 12-hour interval. I also adjusted the amount of food per feeding by rotating the container until I got a suitable portion size.

That’s how I unbox, test, and set up my automatic fish feeder for my aquarium. It was very easy and fun to do and I’m very happy with my purchase. Now I can go on my vacation without worrying about my fish starving or overfeeding.
