On 9 December 2020, Apple introduced its latest AirPod, the AirPods Max.
Another earphone? No! It’s a HEADPHONE!
What so special about an Apple headphone?
First of all, it’s expensive. I didn’t say it. Casey Neistat said it in a tweet…
What are the selling features?
- High-fidelity Audio.
- Active noise cancellation with transparency mode.
- Spatial audio for a theatre-like sound that surrounds you.
- Stunning design with an exceptional fit.
- Adaptive EQ.
Hmmm… Sounds like any other headphones.
Airpods are like “Magical wireless audio” they say.
Is there a mic?
There are 8 mics used for active noise cancellation by sensing and blocking noise.
Transparency mode? On Samsung Galaxy, its called Ambient Sound. Activate it and you can hear the real sounds around you.
Spatial Audio? It’s that surround sound. Apple uses accelerometers and gyroscopes to adjust the sound according to the movement of your head.
No wonder it’s so expensive… with all that tech inside.
Here’s the list of tech from the specs…
- Optical sensor (each ear cup)
- Position sensor (each ear cup)
- Case-detect sensor (each ear cup)
- Accelerometer (each ear cup)
- Gyroscope (left ear cup)
Of course it’s wireless, that’s why they call it AIR-pods.
It is meant to be used with iPhones and iPads, not with your other sound systems.
Again… is there a microphone for me to speak to and record my voice?
Yes there is, but only for answering phone calls.
That makes 9 microphones on top of the 8 noise-canceling mics.
How long can the battery last?
20 hours.
What is the price?
S$849
Goodbye!
