Lenovo Yoga 520 Review Part 1: Unboxing

Is this $1449 Windows 10 touch-screen convertible laptop good enough for video editing on the go?

Let’s find out.

I bought this computer at a discount from COMEX 2017.

It’s cheaper than the equivalent products from Acer and HP.

Other than pricing, here are the top reasons why I chose it.

1. 8th Gen Intel® Core™ i7

It runs on i7, the faster processor Intel has. Better than i3 and i5. (Now they have i9)

2. NVIDIA® GeForce 940 MX 2GB

There is a separate display processor or GPU that will speed things up further.

3. 1TB SATA HDD

That’s a lot of storage space. Great for loading plenty of videos and photos.

4. 360-Degree Hinge

We can fold it all the way and use it like a tablet. Imagine an iPad running on Windows.

5. Battery Up to 10 hours

Most laptops last up to 4 hours on one charge. So 10 hours is good for a working day.

THE TRUTH

Honestly, we bought the Lenovo Yoga 520 for our daughter’s university study use.

We wanted one with specifications that will last the next 5 years.

However, I am testing and reviewing it to see if these specs are good enough for video editing, because of the i7 and GPU.

If this laptop is powerful enough for post-production work, then I will keep it and buy another one for my daughter.

Otherwise, it’s hers.

So this is part 1… unboxing.

The next part is about setting up and testing various features.

I will perform every test and review in separate short clips.

Enjoy!
